For the talented makeup artist Loftjet, beauty represents a profound form of self-expression and a deliberate choice to step away from fleeting trends that don't resonate personally. This philosophy explains why so many of our most admired it-girls turn to him whenever they seek a makeup look that truly captures their authentic essence. He masterfully delivers glowing, understated glamour when the occasion calls for it, while embracing bold, sparkling eyeshadow or striking eyeliner when the moment demands drama—often blending these elements into a seamless, harmonious finish. With an impressive roster of clients including Alex Consani, Addison Rae, Demi Lovato, Gracie Abrams, Meghan Markle, and others, alongside contributions to high-profile shoots for publications like Vogue, W Magazine, and Interview Magazine, Loftjet has undeniably carved out a significant presence in the beauty industry, doing so with remarkable subtlety and skill.

Raised in the vibrant epicenter of Los Angeles, beauty was an ever-present force in his life, just beyond his doorstep, complemented by an abundance of magazines that he eagerly absorbed. It didn't take long for him to view makeup and beauty routines as essential rituals that build confidence and personal empowerment.

In the following interview, Loftjet opens up about the origins of his passion for beauty and how it has shaped his extraordinary career.

What sparked your initial interest in beauty?

My earliest encounters with beauty were shaped by my mother, who was deeply involved with Avon products. Our household was brimming with colorful catalogs and an array of sample items, making beauty an integral part of our daily routine rather than some lofty, unattainable ideal. Observing her meticulously apply her makeup each day taught me from a young age that beauty encompasses ritualistic practices, boosts in self-assurance, and meaningful personal connections—long before I associated it with high glamour or extravagance.

Were you artistically inclined during your childhood?

Creativity has always been a core part of who I am, even if makeup didn't immediately stand out as my primary outlet for it. I was drawn to fields like music and fashion, both of which revolve around visual imagery and narrative storytelling. It was only during my teenage years that makeup truly came into focus, and when it did, it wasn't so much a new discovery as a profound realization: it provided the perfect convergence point for all the artistic passions I had been nurturing.

What methods did you use to master makeup application?

I'm entirely self-taught in makeup artistry, yet my learning process was far from solitary. I immersed myself in the groundbreaking work of icons such as Pat McGrath, Kevin Aucoin, Billy B, and Matthew Anderson. I pored over countless editorial spreads, meticulously analyzed every image, and practiced recreating those looks time and again. Back then, I had little awareness of digital enhancements like Photoshop, so I believed every intricate element had to be crafted manually with brushes and products. This innocent perspective honed my technical skills and fundamentally influenced the precision-driven style I employ today.

How would you characterize your distinctive makeup aesthetic?

My signature style exists at the fascinating crossroads of boldness and timeless beauty. No matter how editorial or avant-garde a look becomes, I always prioritize polish and refinement. I place immense value on fine details, but never allow them to overshadow the individuality of the person wearing the makeup—they must feel utterly empowered and true to themselves. The true hallmark of success for me is when a look strikes that ideal balance of being powerfully striking yet comfortably wearable in real life.

What's your zodiac profile, and how does it influence your artistry?

I'm a Pisces sun with a Leo moon and Virgo rising, and each of these astrological elements manifests uniquely in my professional approach. The Virgo influence is particularly evident in my meticulous workflow—it's detail-focused, deeply hands-on, and sometimes borders on perfectionism where I insist on handling everything personally. While this intensity can be demanding, it's the source of my unwavering precision. The Leo energy shines through in the immense pride I take in my creations and the bold confidence that underpins them, whereas the Pisces side emerges in the welcoming atmospheres I cultivate during sessions. I'm highly intuitive when it comes to reading energies and vibes in a space, allowing me to adapt swiftly and ensure a smooth, harmonious flow for everyone involved.

Loftjet's glam setup and beauty work in action

How did your collaboration with Alex Consani begin?

Our connection was sparked by the legendary Pat McGrath, who introduced us, and we hit it off instantly—not as professional partners at first, but as genuine friends. We maintained contact naturally, bumping into each other whenever paths crossed, without any work-related expectations. As a result, when projects arose organically, transitioning into collaboration felt effortless and authentic. The chemistry we share is always relaxed and sincere, making those sessions among the most enjoyable in my career.

What do you see as the most common misunderstanding about beauty and makeup?

One of the biggest myths is that beauty must always chase the latest trends to be relevant. In reality, at its most powerful, beauty transcends trend cycles and becomes a reflection of personal identity. Makeup serves as an empowering instrument for self-definition, enabling individuals to curate how they present themselves to the world and the emotions they wish to embody. True confidence endures far beyond any passing fad.

If you had to pinpoint one signature element that captures the essence of your work, what is it?

Hands down, it's the skin. Skin is my ultimate obsession, not just for how it photographs but for its vitality in person and under varying lighting conditions. I strive for it to appear vibrant, deeply hydrated, and inherently natural—full of life and humanity. When the skin achieves that flawless, effortless quality, every other aspect of the look falls perfectly into place.

Which beauty movements are captivating you in 2026?

I'm thrilled by the resurgence of personal individuality in beauty, where people are boldly experimenting and curating looks on their own terms rather than blindly adhering to widespread trends. For my own inspirations this year, I'm gravitating toward gentle, ethereal softness: think delicate pastel shades on eyelids and cheeks, along with light, diffused color applications that evoke an angelic, dreamlike quality. These choices are understated yet emotionally resonant, offering a subtle form of personal expression.

Is there a beauty trend you'll never embrace?

I make a conscious effort to appreciate everyone's preferences without judgment, but lash extensions have never appealed to me personally. I fully respect their value, particularly for those facing challenges like hair loss, and if they enhance someone's self-esteem, that's wonderful. They're simply not my preference. The same applies to microblading; while some artists excel at it, the overall effect often feels overly harsh for my sensibilities. I much prefer beauty approaches that emphasize softness, adaptability, and flexibility—elements that allow for ongoing evolution rather than lifelong commitments.

Can you describe the atmosphere in your makeup studio?

The vibe in my glam room is all about brightness, teamwork, and laid-back energy—more like a casual hangout with friends than a tense, deadline-driven environment. Even during the most time-constrained shoots, injecting humor helps keep things balanced and fun. When the overall mood remains serene and encouraging, the creative results consistently exceed expectations.
